Privacy Policy for The Apt Edit

Last updated: May 22, 2026

The Apt Edit ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website theaptedit.com (the "Site"), a blog about budget home decor for small spaces and rentals. The Apt Edit is powered by Shopify, which hosts the Site and enables us to provide it to you. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information when you visit or use the Site or otherwise communicate with us.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understand the collection, use, and disclosure of your information as described here.

Personal Information We Collect

We run a blog, not a store — we do not sell products directly, process payments, or operate user accounts on the Site. We collect only limited personal information, and most of it only if you choose to give it to us:

Contact and subscription details, including your name and email address, if you sign up for our email list or contact us.

Communications, including the information you provide when you email us or send us a message.

Device and usage information, collected automatically, including your IP address, browser and device type, and information about how you interact with and navigate the Site. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies and Tracking Technologies" below).

We do not collect financial information, payment card numbers, or account passwords, because we do not sell anything or offer accounts on the Site. Any purchase you make happens on a third-party retailer's website, subject to that retailer's own privacy policy (see "Affiliate Links" below).

How We Collect Personal Information

We collect personal information directly from you (when you subscribe, comment, or contact us); automatically through the Site and through cookies and similar technologies; and from our service providers, such as our hosting platform, when they process information on our behalf.

How We Use Your Personal Information

We use the personal information we collect to operate and improve the Site; to send you emails you have opted in to receive, such as new posts and updates; to respond to your messages and provide support; to understand how visitors use the Site; to detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security issues; and to comply with applicable law and respond to valid legal requests.

We do not sell your personal information.

Affiliate Links

The Apt Edit participates in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program and others. This means the Site contains affiliate links, and we may earn a commission when you click one of these links and make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. When you click an affiliate link, you leave our Site and the retailer (for example, Amazon, Wayfair, or Target) may collect information about your visit and purchase under their own privacy policy, not this one. We do not receive your payment or financial information through these links. We disclose the use of affiliate links clearly on every post that contains them.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We and our service providers, including Shopify, use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Site, remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the Site, and support analytics and advertising. When you visit the Site, you may see a cookie consent banner that lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies and manage your preferences. Essential cookies needed to run the Site cannot be turned off. You can also set your browser to refuse cookies, though some parts of the Site may not work properly if you do.

We may use website analytics to understand visitor behavior in aggregate. If we add a separate analytics provider such as Google Analytics in the future, we will update this policy and your cookie choices will continue to apply.

How We Disclose Personal Information

We may disclose your personal information in these limited circumstances: with service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as our hosting platform (Shopify) and, if and when we use them, an email service provider; when you direct or consent to disclosure, such as through social media widgets; and to comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, enforce our terms, or protect our rights and the rights of others, including in connection with a business transaction such as a sale or merger.

Relationship with Shopify

The Site is hosted by Shopify, which collects and processes personal information about your access to and use of the Site in order to provide and improve its services. Information you submit to the Site may be transmitted to and shared with Shopify, as well as third parties that may be located in countries other than where you reside, in order to provide these services. In some cases Shopify is responsible for the processing of this personal information. To learn more about how Shopify uses your personal information and any rights you may have, you can visit the Shopify Consumer Privacy Policy at privacy.shopify.com/en.

Third-Party Websites and Links

The Site contains links to websites operated by third parties, including affiliate retailers and social media platforms. If you follow these links, you should review their own privacy and security policies. We do not control and are not responsible for the privacy practices, security, or content of these third-party sites. Our inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information. These rights are not absolute and may apply only in certain circumstances:

Right to access or know what personal information we hold about you; right to delete personal information we maintain about you; right to correct inaccurate personal information; right of portability, to receive a copy of your personal information; and the right to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising.

If you visit the Site with the Global Privacy Control (GPC) opt-out signal enabled, we will treat it as a request to opt out for that device and browser where required by law. You can learn more about GPC at globalprivacycontrol.org. Other than GPC, we do not currently respond to other "Do Not Track" signals.

You can opt out of our promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email. If you opt out, we may still send non-promotional messages, such as replies to your inquiries.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights. We may need to verify your identity before processing a request, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows, subject to verification.

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA and CalOPPA)

We are based in California, and California residents have the rights described above, including the right to know, delete, correct, and opt out, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. To opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, you can use the data-sharing opt-out page available through the Site, which is active for residents of California and other states with similar laws, or contact us directly. Because we do not sell personal information in the traditional sense, your choices through the cookie banner and the opt-out page control how data is shared for advertising. In compliance with CalOPPA, we disclose our information practices in this policy and describe how we respond to Do Not Track and GPC signals above.

Children's Privacy

The Site is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under the age of majority in your jurisdiction). We do not have actual knowledge that we sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security and Retention

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee perfect security. We recommend you avoid sending sensitive information through unsecure channels. We retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the Site, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our policies.

International Transfers

We may transfer, store, and process your personal information outside the country where you live, including in the United States. If we transfer personal information out of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we will rely on recognized transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, unless the destination is a country recognized as providing adequate protection.

Complaints

If you have a complaint about how we process your personal information, please contact us using the details below. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to appeal our decision or to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the revised policy here and update the "Last updated" date.
