About Us
Hey, we're the couple behind The Apt Edit, and we refused to live in a boring apartment.
We're two people renting a small apartment on a combined income under $65k a year. No house. No renovation budget. No Pinterest-perfect staging crew. Just us, a tiny space, and a whole lot of determination to make it feel like home.
We started The Apt Edit because we kept running into the same problem: every "budget decorating" guide we found assumed you owned your place, had a car to haul furniture, and could spend $500 on a "starter" rug. That's not our life, and we're guessing it might not be yours either.
Our story
When we moved into our apartment, it felt like living inside a beige rectangle. Low ceilings, no storage, one window. We had a few pieces of furniture, a limited budget, and zero idea where to start.
We spent months experimenting, thrift stores, Amazon deep dives, IKEA on a weekday, clearance section camping. We made mistakes (the floating shelves we installed on drywall are a cautionary tale). We figured things out. And slowly, our apartment started to actually feel like us.
People started asking us where we got things. Friends wanted to know how we made a small space feel bigger without breaking the lease. So we started writing it all down.
That's this blog.
What we cover
Everything here is tested in a real small apartment by two real people on a real budget. We cover:
- Decor finds under $50 (and often under $25)
- Rental-friendly solutions: no damage, no lost deposits
- Small space strategies that actually work in tight square footage
- Honest reviews of products we've actually bought with our own money
We use affiliate links to keep this blog running. If you buy something through our links, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We'll always tell you exactly what we think, whether we love it or not.
This is for you if...
- You rent and wish more content was made with renters in mind
- You're decorating your first apartment and don't know where to start
- You're tired of "budget" content that isn't actually budget
- You want real opinions from people who are actually living this
We're not interior designers. We're not influencers. We're just two people who figured out how to make a small rented space feel like home, and want to help you do the same.
